Errr depends on which group of gers u mix with.

1) Agency, some do speak little chinese or english.
2) Office Ladies, some went thru proper education, their english is ok.
3) FL, u will be surprise, some speak english, chinese n even cantonese.
4) Students, as mentioned by a bro here, communicating with them on english shouldn't be a prob.

It is better to learn some basic vietnamese first, so that maybe can communicate in vietnamese, but vietnamese is not easy in pronunciation!
As for writing it shall be easier, u can find vietnamese language at one of the thread (vietnamisation Program):rolleyes:

there are no. of commercial sch in sillypore offering viet langauages!
linguaphone in orchard .............and maybe some community centres in certain areas....to marry a viet wife ...its good to understand their languages .!
just my 2 cents worth!

well...to understand, read , write or speak all needs sometime to gel up...
take it as another pass time hobby to study la...u will improve by time pass..
i had a hard time speaking to my viet wife father and family in viet too....but when comes to drink "beer" with her father...BEER TALK liao aka bottom up lor ...since both party cant chat alot...haha!
Imagine only one sg man drinking with 7 of my viet wife father brothers and friends......almost throw white flag....:eek:

i have a true life story to share with you bradders here.. which is a sad story about having a viet wife. If there is someone interested to know about it, then i post it up here. Its a real life and long long story.. and a very sad story. i may need a few posting to relay all..
