How about in HCM? What is your opinion? I think renting a place(something like 1-rm flat) in HCM already cost about SGD$150 to 200? That's what the locals told me when I ask around on my recent trip... Maybe they trying to bluff me. ;)

Its indeed true that rental in HCM City has rocketed quite a lot for the past 2 years. This year alone, the inflation rate in the whole country has gone beyond what the government has planned for. a one room flat for the locals, with attached toilet, will cost around that price. I remember when i first met my wife some years ago, she was staying in a rented unit at Q.BT, and the rental then was already US$100 a month. It is not cheap to `feed' your gal who is staying in HCM City. If your gal depends on you fully, then be prepared to fork out around S$500 monthly (if the gal knows how to save). If the gal thinks you are loaded, then even SGD$1k a month also not enuff

Bro, i do not think that they will have any leftover $$ to save for emergency cases. During emergency, they will call you and ask you to send emergency $$ to them via western union. :D

well said!:D Even Vietnamese do not trust each other. E.g. Vietnamese do not trust the VN govt.; or vice versa.

The Chinese Vietnamese bizmen, if given the choice, will never partner with the local Vietnamese in any biz venture. They believe any kind of joint venture with the local Vietnamese is like riding a tiger's back; anytime they can turn around and bite you.

If you're in HCMC, you'll notice in the local Vietnamese restaurants, it's always the lady boss(or family members) who handle all the cash transactions. The rich local Vietnamese don't even trust their own kind. On the contrary, if you eat often in D5(Chinatown), you'll notice quite a number of Chinese restaurants let their Chinese staff handle cash; e.g. the popular Dong Nguyen restaurant(famous for its chicken rice).

Local Vietnamese are great pretenders and good Hollywood actors/actresses(Academy Award winning acts). There are good Vietnamese, but they're in the small minority. If you can find them, it's almost like striking TOTO.:D

I totally agree with Bro papilon. Much too often, singapore man are taken in by the sexual services provided by Vietnamese ladies and will think very positively about the vietnamese. I learnt thru the Vietnamese school of hard knocks during the period of time i was there in Vietnam. Even till now when i am doing business in Vietnam, i view every vietnamese with skeptism.

I have also learnt a lot from my wife on how the normal vietnamese view the foreigners and what are the many types of tricks that they set to con foreigners like us. After hearing from my wife about those tricks, then i truely understand that it will take a damm long time and thru damm a lot of hard knocks before we can learn to avoid being conned by vietnamese. Even if you speak vietnamese well, it's still not enuff as no matter what, we are still foreigners and are brought up differently.
