I will agree that S$300 will be a good and resonable amount for your gal to live in HCMC. Most of the province gals who works in HCMC normally rent sub-standard housing. As long as they have a mattress to sleep on and there's a toilet in the house / room, they will be alright. Most of these gals stay around District 8 n District BT, as rentals in these districts are cheaper. Most of the time, they will also share the room with one or two other gals. So rental per month plus water + electricity will be around 300,000VND to 500,000VND. Don't expect your gals to be staying in apts like your HDB 3,4 or 5 room flats or even pte apts. The rooms they rent will be very much worse off than what you will expect.

Me no viet consultant la bro. Make me pai seh only

Quite true bro...Heard from my bro that his gf's house quite small but still have partitioned rooms with false walls...All cooking done in the room as well!! Wah piangz...Even during "lam tinh" with inaudible moans could be sensed next door...:)

When i first met my wife some years back, she was staying in a so called `house' in D.BT down XVNT street. I was quite amazed by the `house'. Although there's an attached kitchen and toilet, there's not a single window in the house except the front glass door. The so called `room' was just simply divided by a `curtain'. After i shifted in with her, her family came from province very often. Whenever we want to lam tinh at night, we have to be very quiet. Damm, feels so uncomfy. But this house is already costing 1 million VND then and exchange rate was S$1 = 7400VND then. So already considered not cheap roi

Bro, this friend of yours should be from a better to do family. Its very normal to have big rooms and many storey high if the person is from a better or well to do family there. Houses there are normally 8m x 20m and of 3 to 4 storeys. My former house in HCMC has 7 rooms with 8 toilets, one large basement for parking car. Best of all is a open air balcony on 3rd floor facing the saigon river. land area is slightly bigger than normal at 12 x 20 m. Out of the 7 rooms, 1 is Karaoke room. Some bros here have been to my house before.

But these type of housing is beyond reach for most of normal people in Vietnam. Most of the gals that fellow bros got to know in HCMC are mainly province gals who have gone to work in HCMC. So the type of housing they stay in will be what i described in my earlier post. ;)

Bro, it really depends on where the villa is situated. The hotspot in HCMC now is near D7, Phu My Hung. land prices there rise like no one's business. It can easily reach slightly over US$2500 per sqf at D7. I think bro Papillon30can advise on this too. When i bought my villa in 2005, price was around US$400K, 18 months later i sold it for around US$650K. If i didn't sell during that time and leave it till now, i think i can sell at US$1m. Maybe me no luck to earn that much.

As for condos, there are plentiful around. It really depends on where it is situated at. For size similiar to 4 room flat in singapore, can cost anything from US$180K to US$600K. So for bros who thinks that property prices in Vietnam is low, then think again.
