May I know how much did you got your ao dai for??? How's the quality?? I asked quite a number of places around VND250K to VND400K but dun really like the quality as the knitting is not well-done especially the tourist-target version :(

Thinking of customising a good quality one for my BX if the price is reasonable:)

Normally the material for the ao dai is bought seperately. There are a few higher class shops in D1 selling Ao Dai materials and there are many other shops in D1 that can do the knitting well.

Yup that was what I was thinking to do also;), but hopefully can buy the material and make the ao dai from the same shop as less troublesome. Quite disappointed with the ready-made off-the-shelf ones.

Guess I will continue to look around:)

Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner

I have always been quite amazed on how vietnamese gals compare among themselves, both in Vietnam and overseas. I remember when i was stationed in HCMC, there was a period of time when i was staying in a Condo in Phu My Hung, D7. Being an area for the expatriate community in HCMC, often will you find foreigner husbands with Vietnamese spouse. My wife and i stay on the top floor penthouse with 3 maids and my 2 kids. (maids are damm cheap there @ around S$70 per month per maid then) My wife got to know a vietnamese lady married to a taiwanese man. They stay on the 4th floor on a single storey condo. From the very day my wife got to know her, she started to compare houses, husband's salary, gold worn, motorbike etc. My wife told me that this is normal among vietnamese ladies.

After shifting back to singapore, my wife got to know another vietnamese lady in Singapore, she's married to a Singaporean man. This lady is a nice lady, but she is very afraid of so called `losing' to us. My wife and i never wanted to compare in any way as we do not believe in making friends based on wealth. But this lady wants to compare with us from top to bottom. The same goes for another vietnamese lady we met recently near our house.

Understandable that comparing is inevitable, but vietnamese tend to compare too openly for comfort. Listen to your wife's conversation with other vietnamese ladies and you will surely encounter what i have encountered. ;)

U bery solid man - u stayed at Sky Garden penthouse. Everyone looked
"UP" at you( & your wife). The Vietnamese learnt from the Chinese about
"face value" - hence the material comparison.
