the property market is cooling due to the tightening of money supply by the central bank. However, dont expect the market to crush...lots of land owners are cash rich investors...i do agree that a fraction of those, who joined at the peak with bank borrowings, are waiting to cut lose....most buyers are doing their wait-and-see now...those interested to go in the market now can look at 10-15% discount from the CNY prices at the moment...

FD rate has shot up to low teens...(if have money, now is the best time to invest in VND)...

stock market too has turned from the best performing market, in SEA, to the worse performing one. Value has emerged...if go in, eye must open big big...

hope all bros here can make some good money from their investments in VN..:D

Cash is king now in Vietnam; adversity means opportunity. Opportunity to
make $$$$$$$ ( many folds or lose it all). Vietnam is not for the faint hearted.

Vietnamese, by nature, have the gambling instinct( or some called it the investor spirit).:D

Depending on which year you first went there, but things were very much different before 2005, or even in the year i first arrived in 2002.

I am sure some bros here remember when S$1 can only be exchange for around 6800 to 7000 VND. The Vietnamese dong notes are damm old and dirty and there were no 500,000 VND notes. The biggest note then were the 100,000VND notes which were brown colour.

There were not much cars on the roads as most people only ride bike. If you own a japanese made honda, u are considered damm rich roi. For cars, they were mostly Korean made Daewoos and most poeple like it white colour. There won't many taxi companies around, and the most popular were the yellow Vina Taxis, which was using Daewoo then. During raining days, it also rain in the taxi.. hahaha. When taxi vinasun came out with their brand new Toyota altis by late 2003, it was considered a luxury and most people like their taxis very much.

Those were the days.... :D

Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner

If you allow them to buy most things on your credit, then the next thing they can ask for is your ATM card. Its good to dote on yr gf or ba xa, but there's a limit to equating LOVE to MONEY totally. When i was staying in Saigon last time, my wife used to ask me to buy a lot of things for her family. Brother wants 4 sets of clothes, wants pocket money, mother wants 6 bottles of fish sauce etc etc.. damm knn, the list never ends. Then i became more calculative, i told my wife that there shouldn't be any more other demands besides the monthly money that we give to her parents. It took some time for my wife and her family to get used to it, but after some time, they also bo bian.

If my girlfriend insist that after marriage she wants a brand new set of clothes...is that treating me a a robert? as in 10 sets of going out clothes and 10 sets of stay home clothes.

Technically she doesn't want to bring all her old clothes over to singapore. which means everything new!

Seems like the EAGLE BRAND BRAND MEDICATED OIL is a well know thing among all bros who have viet gfs or wives ... keke...

I think the most important thing is not to disclose your 'actual' income... if not the viet families request will never end....and best is to have control and influence over ur gfs or wives... do not give in to them so much

This will have to depend on how much is a set of new clothes? and whether that cost is alright to you.....
