Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner

As long your girl-friend or wife is a PRC or Vietnamese better stay far far away if not the ang-pows and lunches/dinners will cost you a bomb :) To a certain extent, maybe that's include Koreans and Japanese as they are more or less influenced by the Chinese customs and traditions.

Knowing how big is her family, i know that spending the holidays there will burst my wallet. Even when i was stationed there, i spent my TET holidays @ HCM City with my own parents at my house. My wife always suggest spending TET @ her province, i always give lots of excuses.

Bro, u are not correct on this this. The VN marriage cert is recognised in by ICA as long as its translated into english and certified by the Vietnamese Notary Public. I can verify this as my wife has gotten PR initially with this and now Singapore Citizenship. :D Even if ROM in Singapore but the husband is not able to attain the LTSVP for the viet wife, the viet wife also cannot stay. ROM in singapore doesn't ensure that the viet lady can stay.

thanks for the clarification. :)

good lor. So u were in VN since 2003/2004, i am just 1 to 2 years earlier than you. But if you have been staying there, then you should know that its very easy for local gangsters to attack foreigners there. ;)

This statement is true to a certain extend in Vietnam. Its always good to be able to speak their language and understand their culture. I always like to seat by the roadside to enjoy com tam or other local dishes. But when it comes to dealing with government agencies, its better to be known as a foreigner. You will get better treatment when you are known as foreigner to the government officer. Even at the airport, the treatment u get as a foreigner is surely very much different from that of a local vietnamese. These are my personal experience. :D

The vietnamese men r very rowdy especially at their local disco, always looking for trouble. I ever come across a man trying to go to the performance stage to dance with the singer, and was been pull down by the boucers.
