I was talking with a Thai friend previously, and he shared it’s not that women are naturally more open to selling their bodies, but rather that many are driven by financial need. For some, this becomes the fastest way to make money.

He then asked me, “If given a choice, do you think an average Thai woman would willingly choose this path?”

Not all, but many women do this to support their families in rural areas or as a short-term solution to save enough money to start a business. Sadly, some are forced into this life from a young age and continue because they lack other skills or opportunities to escape it.

This situation isn't unique to Thailand—similar circumstances exist in many countries. The difference lies in how prevalent it is and whether we're in environments where we can see it firsthand. Often, these realities are hidden unless we're directly connected to those circles or communities.

Even in Singapore, this exists—though it might be less common or more discreet. Every country faces similar issues to some extent; it often depends on how visible it is within society and whether we're in a position to notice it.

Commercial sex is deeply rooted in Thai culture for ages. Young women exploited by their rich and powerful, lure of quick money and hi-so lifestyle. Plus a chunk of foreign men willing to pay good money as opposed to working a full time job. A good majority of Thai men are lazy and useless, how and who else can Thai women rely on?

Don't need a PhD to understand all these.
