Dunno if this is thru but this is what I was told by a friend who got married in vn.

My friend's stupid wife demanded for 200k dong for each her guests just because he's a foreigner.

Dun fall for this.

Can you imagine giving ang pows to your guests instead of them giving to you.

Thanks Bro for the advise. I'm pretty sure my gf is not that stupid and she knows I'm not loaded. Many times she had even try to save me some $$$ while we're together in VN.:D

I'm only more worried of the dowry and wedding dinner.:(

The cold and hard truth is face value, bragging rights, gossip, etc are much more important to them...... especially during such a once-in-a-lifetime event.

Viets are the most 'face important' people in this world.

Which eventually leads to a lot of problems with their partners, esp when he can't afford it.

I knew that too, bro. It has been mentioned several times in this thread about their culture.

That's why I'm slowly 'brain-washing' my gf that we need to be prudent in our spending esp when she can't work during the early stages after marriage and we have to remit $ back home. :D

Nevertheless, I'm prepared to expect the 'unexpected'.

I like the Chat Chat card because I can top up online and also I use the speed dial and callback functions, meaning that i don't even incur local rates as its considered a local incoming call (which is free for my M1 plan)

Callback function will get u lesser time compared with call-direct. If u call from your office phone, then use call-direct, which give u longer timing :)

if wedding hold in village, confirm cheap. If hold in HCMC, expect to pay more, very much more.

However, the one thing in common about holding wedding dinners regardless of location, losing money is a sure thing.

Not all are like that.
Face value is also important for my galfriend.. that is why she tell me if I go JC/GL play, I better don't let her spies see me.

Bragging and gossip are not in my galfriend agenda.

For once in a lifetime event... wedding.
She just need it to be held in her province at her home.

Her cousin who recently flew back to VN with her viet kieu husband to hold a 5 days wedding party in the province. Not only spend on the banquet, they also spend money engaging 5 well known vn singers
