Good luck..

I have to agree that the US embassy did respond to our call when we were in CP police station back in 2005 ... end up the police chief made a deal with me and escort us back to hotel ... ;)

Hong Kong PR and Australia passport is good.

Still have vested interest so cannot bail out so soon yet.
Foreigners get treated better in Singapore.
I enjoy getting treated better in another country as a foreigner.
What an irony.

The world is my home.
For the time being China is.

Agree, China citizenship? Forget it. I am treated better overseas than in Singapore. When you have money, you are treated better. But in Singapore, you pay tax to GOV and they treat FTs better :D

Yes this is what the Embassy should do to help its citizens.

Yes agree! :)

Would rather pay tax to countries that treat us better.

Hi Tony, I have a bit different experience with "home team" than you. The Hanoi and Shanghai home team has always treated me very nice and goes all the ways to make sure my requests are fulfill and they follow up with emails and calls. This is just my perspectives lah...

Abang Pink_Flyod,

"Home Team" also see status and background.
I'm very sure there're some very helpful "Home Team" staff all around the globe just that very rare.
Loss of passport report/application no count hor. :D
It's the bureaucracy and the staff are just like robots executing template style replies.
Everything is by the book and they've no flexibilty.

Your experience is at the big city level so easier to solve.
Try some ulu small town then that's where the challenge for the staff is.
Bro FeiGohGoh's US Embassy must have called Changping Town PSB Chief directly that's why the matter was resolved quickly and get VIP treatment escort back to hotel from police chief some more. :D

If one day the real Peter L** is in a small town Police Station and call "Home Team" and identify himself as Peter L**.
You see how fast they can get you out. :D

Haha you still get follow up phone calls.
I got out of the police station with my own connections and I called the duty staff no need liao I've settled the matter myself.
Can tell me they still stuck at Dongguan City level bureaucracy and unable to contact town level bureaucracy yet.

Thanks for sharing your experience nonetheless.

when some of us got into trouble in rural mongolia
the beijing embassy will tell you'' there is no spore embassy in mongolia''
''so we cannot help you and beijing is too far from inner mongolia, we need some time to solve your matter''
so if any of you travel too far north to china-mongolia or china-russia
please take good care of yourself because the home team is UNABLE AND NOT LIKELY TO SAVE YOU IF YOU GET INTO ANY TROUBLE over there
hahaha

Hahaha damn classic. :D

You also have cock replies from "Home Team". :p

Now we can more or less conclude that the Singapore Passport is one of the best in visa free travel but the after sales service sucks. :D

Cant agree more!!!

Don't mention far away ulu town. My real life example, was in Jakarta, called the embassy and asked for some assistance for my business, they mentioned that I could talk the person based at the embassy but works for Spring Singapore (or something like that). So phone was transferred to the person, no one answered. So in the next few days, I called again and left messages. No return call, so I call the embassy again, and was told the person just left to visit other city in Indonesia.

The next time I went back to Jakarta I email the person to make appointment, everything was set, then the day I arrive in Jakarta, I called the person and he gave tons of excuses about he needs to travel to other cities in Indonesia and can't meet with me....

This is our Home Team ladies and gentleman...I wonder where the $ I paid for my taxes went to????

Renewing passport is just small matter.

What we're talking about here is that the performance of the "Home Team" in handling urgent and emergency matters are disappointing. :)

Human beings are like that.
Always think bad things will not happen to them.
But when it really happens and you try to seek help from "Home Team".
I can only say all the best lah. :p

I get more help from the Thai authorities than the "Home Team" during the 2008 Bangkok Protests that resulted in the closure of Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Got 3 nights of complimentary accomodation in a 3 Star Hotel due to me being stranded in Bangkok. :D

Bro Happyman007,

Not every Singaporean have connections or good kangtao when overseas.
It is the duty of the "Home Team" to assist its citizens to the best they can regardless of status and background.

Let's say a typical Singapore citizen who is not so travel savvy and street smart got into some trouble and end up in a Thailand police station or in the hands of criminals.
You think he/she got Thai Army friend, politician kangtao or mafia friend no to call for help meh?
