speak within 2 months must pay a lot of tuition fee. learn hw to nt in TV in 2 months without much tuition fee is easily achievable.

yes must hv a lot of motivation and interest to learn!

Jackbl is the greatest example. :p:D

I suppose they follow the old customs of PRC. In the 80's when my parents went to their village in Fujian for a visit, they must prepared to throw a dinners and lunches for the whole village which cost quite a few thousand dollars. Not forgetting still have to give angpow to the immediate relatives.

Luckily they have improve tremendously. Three years back I went with my mother to the village there was no need to throw any dinners or lunches - just need to give angpow (about S$10 per person) to the immediate relatives.

I believe the Vietnamese will follow suit once their economy improve and people there are more well off - both financially and intellectually.

I remember when i first went with my wife to her village in Ben Tre in 2003, i kanna big big shock. She introduced me to almost all of her village. It seems that almost everyone living there is her relative. From her father's side to her mother's side, can kill leh. Everyone i must give some money, minimum 50k for kids. During that time, still using the old notes, like toilet paper. My wife asked me to changed like 6 to 7 million VND (if i didn't remember wrongly) and exchange rate was like S$1 = 7000VND then. Meet this and that, everyone must give VND. I was like... knn... i am santa clause huh? Go back 1 day, finish all VND. I still have to take out my S$ to change for VND at the market. Ever since that trip, i dread going back to her village. :D

Anyway i was relieved because we finally boarded the van and set off to HCMC. during the journey, lots of talking and understanding happens betwn us. i am glad as this is one of the thing i have looking forward to this trip besides meeting her family.

Once i reach pham ngu lao aka my usual place in HCMC i am like HOORAAYYY!!!

-the end-

thank you for reading my long and boring post. many xin loi if i did so. but if you find it interesting i will be glad! *bow*

HOORAAYYYY........... finally you made it..... :) I just able to read this today, just came back from HCM yesterday noon. Sorry Bro Hurricane, i have to make my trip before 14 since my visa expired on the 14/10.

What a story Doggie, really enjoy reading it. It's quite different from my experience. Luckily my bx would not allow me to stay overnight there. I only met her mom, and no one else. She stay home alone, no husband, no uncles, no any relatives only a brother working somewhere in HCM,. It's not a surprise visit, my bx informed her 2 days before we go. I hired a car and went there with her HCM aunt and cousin, very pleasant day trip i may say. Did not talk a word to her mom she is very shy, except bow and smile when meeting her first time. We ate lunch as soon as we arrived and i slept after lunch while the women sitting around talking in kitchen. She woke me up and i hugged and kissed the mother while slipping $100 note to her hand and headed back to HCM.
