Just heard this statement abt "Family being a sacred gift from the gods, should not belittle it."

Does that mean one should not put one's personal love affairs before family. Meaning if family dun approve the marriage, one should not go ahead?

Usually the one whom harm you are relatives and family members.

The chance of a stranger harming you is very low.

If I do not know you; there is no reason to harm you.

My brother in law once started a business by copying my business model. I initially wanted to have a Partnership business with him; but he end up opening a company with his own sisters.

I approach my supplier (whom he know thru me) that he can only choose to supply his stock to one of us.

My supplier is still with me today; while my brother in law run out of business.

I still employ my sister (after my brother in law business folded) even though I do not like what my brother in law did. Maybe blood is thicker than water. :o

All this happen 10 years ago; and I was very hot headed when I know my brother in law is setting me up to fuck my business. I call my sister and scold all hokkien; hakka; english foul language I can find.....

But now approaching 40 liao; mellow down a bit and feel that money is not everything. (that is when you have some....:cool:)

Now become a Tiko liao; hence now active in SBF even though my account is open in 2004.

Wife, buddies, gfs, fbs, etc etc ... could be chosen by ourselves.

But direct family members ... cant choose ;) LL

Think our Asian values stressed a lot on responsibility, so what happen when your heart tells you otherwise? Anyone has any stories to share?

I can’t imagine putting anything before my family including my own life! :cool: God is LOVE and to put LOVE 1st is the greatest love a family can have from you. Anyway, love your family before sharing it with the in-laws family cos family's relationship lasts forever with blood, whereas the relationships we have with the in-laws sometimes do not. ;)

Having and belonging to a family is one of the greatest gifts that Heaven has given to us. Family is the most sacred gift, turn your back on them and you will truly have nothing :)

Bro that is true, we trust our family members naturally, but also hit hard by them sometimes, really sad.

But we still protect our family members most if required

I think always is hard to quantify. 90% of the time family comes first but there are always exceptions.

The biggest betrayals always come from the people you put the greatest trust in.

every family has their own skeleton in the closets n there r ppl who try to disown their family members due to some reason or another ..

when u r young, u will have the hormones raging n strong "i'm right" mindset..
when u get older, u will look back n reflect on your attitude towards ur family and learn to understand ppl's thoughts from different perspectives..

at the end of the day, u can't choose ur family so the saying "blood is thicker then water" is true..


if its in the case of marriage, it is not just the marriage of 2 persons. it is the marriage of 2 families. if there r ppl opposing the marriage, try to understand the reason or concerns. in many cross cultural marriages, the opposing voices is related to religions and surnames being changed. many ppl have managed to get married by bridging the gaps.
but i've ever came across some who cannot get married even if they r of the same religion due to some birth numbers etc which i find it rubbish but i'm glad i dont need to go through things like tat as those would be complicating to handle.. >_<
