story time, let me relate what a friend told me...

he was taking a flight from hcm to singapore...a pretty educated VB travel with the parents to attend wedding dinner...parents happened to sit just in front of my friend...pretty VB sat beside a Singaporean Indian who cannot speak Vietnamese and this chap ask plenty of questions and showing interest in the pretty VB...the father shouted in Vietnamese telling her to stop talking to the man...when the plane landed...my friend greeted in Vietnamese to her parents...and later encouraged her daughter to make friend with my friend and so got her contact number...morale of story...need to impress the parents la...
That speaks a lot on how important it is to first learn Vietnamese and the culture at the same time to get a foot up into understanding the Vietnamese. Priceless tip. (And also, if they talk behind your back, you will not be so blur like a sotong). Alright Bro!
