In the old days when Jakarta airport wasn't even air-conditioned (during Suharto times), bringing in anything that has Chinese wordings is not legal,hence I am constantly wary of what I brought in today. After Suharto time, I believe the people working at the custom immigration of Indonesia probably become more creative on how to 'tax' tourists by bending the official rules to their advantages.

I believe the whole idea was to comply with their regulations and leave no chance for them to 'tax' me. Like i say before,crossing the Indo customs,even tho I believe I am not breaking any of their laws,it is still my greatest fear.

Hehehe...when I saw that fried fish,i am actually curious how they were able to cook it and then put them on the dining table in such a nice shape....

I think the shape of the fish being dished out on the plate is amazing!

At some ferry terminal that are further from Nagoya area,like Batam Center,Sekupang,Nongsa etc,the taxi fare is more expensive,which can range between 60k to 120k rupiah.

Just to share one small little trick here if you don't wish to walk too far out to Harbour Bay Mall,simply go to the Harbour Bay Departure Hall which is where Horizon Ferry counter is located, one could easily get 30k-40k during weekdays. Reason is simple, MOST taxis drop off their customers there and you flag the taxi who drops off their customers there,taxi driver/s no need to join the queue at the Arrival Hall when they pick you up from there,it would be a win-win situation.

Yes,if one is running solo,ojek can be pretty convenient too.

I was delighted and feel a sense of satisfaction that my 3k rupiah was so well spend. After that I then walk to Formosa from Nagoya hill mall.
I have not tried taking bus yet. Maybe one day I might just hop-in.

Sometime I do look out for promotion items in Batam. When there is a food promotion like half price for gurame fried freshwater fish at EA café (level 3 Nagoya hill) and other food items, I will not hesitate to go ahead to enjoy.

I also noticed that street food in Batam are also cheap and delicious which provide another alternative in saving money . They are normally sold in mobile warung or mobile push cart kiosk with 2 wheel. Some street food include mee soto, bakso (Indonesian meat ball), rujak (Indonesian rojak), satay, etc.
Thank you for sharing. Learned something after reading your post.

One of the thing I learned in Batam was,the real cost of food is actually really cheap and when one pick a place to eat,the cost just adds up due to the kind/type of places one choose to eat.

Another saving tips is tried to buy grocery or personal needs from cheap mini market like alfamart which has more than 7000 stores which is the largest retailer in indonesia. (the so call 7-11 of Indonesia)
I am actually quite surprise that Alfa Mart actually sells the same thing at a lower price as compare to K-Mart. I usually get my daily necessities from Top 100 tho or the provision shop below Formosa Hotel , Alfa Mart can be a nice mart to shop in.

The good thing about Alfa Mart is that they are operating 24 hours (K-Mart too). In between walking distance from the Alfa Mart near Siang Malam sea food and Formosa,there is also another provision shop,but I don't think its 24hour. During the day,top 100 provision store (not 24hour) opposite Lovinna Inn Nagoya is nearer to go to as compare to Alfa Mart near New Siang Malam sea food store. K-Mart was just opposite Center Point (Center Point is beside Formosa),then again K-Mart is a little more expensive.

Pretend to walk away if the mami refuse to lower down the booking fee of the cewek.
Well-advised.

For Massage Parlor :

Hj = 100k rupiah

Fj = 200k rupiah

My bargaining benchmark,hehehe...

For Booking joint :

With taxi or w/o taxi,it plays an important role. But with taxi or w/o taxi in most booking joints,if one don't bargain at all,it would almost 100% be carrot pricing. In other word,the taxi comm WILL BE included in total bill even when we go w/o taxi. A few times I noticed that taxi comm were greatly reduced if i bargained.

There was once when i brought a few bros in this forum to Happy 8. They go with me on a taxi on a particular day,price for a SYT girl was about 1 million rupiah and 1.1 million rupiah respectively. But when the same duo goes to Happy 8 w/o me (and w/o any taxi driver) on their own,the price was at 1.2 to 1.3 million rupiah. They came back Sillypore to complain to me,hehehe....thats how i knew of their situation.

I dare say most Sillyporean will NOT actually be bother by paying the extra 100k to 300k variances,even if its 500k rupiah more. But i would say its NOT the 100k to 300k rupiah that counts but more of the price being stack up in the future. Today i pay 100k to 300k extra,tomorrow it can be 200k to 500k extra,the next day before you knew it,may be 300k to 800k more & it continue to adds up over time until becoming like Sillypore of the past, where an hour massage + hj = S$30 or lesser about 10 years ago. Today,its more than 3 times the amount.

Want to inflate Batam to be like Sillypore,by all means do not bargain,hehehe...just my personal point of view.

Yes,during the 1st day of the trip,when I become millionaire,i feel very rich and have the tendency to spend w/o 2nd thought. I am now very careful on my 1st day and 1st night of my trip on how I spend my money. A lot of bros whom I knew didn't know how come they spend their money away so fast,hehehe...so

No need to consult me regarding bargaining,its already in one of my post below (hehehe...) :
