I think the first and most urgent task is to get the relationship of your parents back on track. You may want to invite them for counselling so that both parties have a chance to speak their mind to a neutral party who could possibly offer them some solution for reconcilliation.
If the woman really owe your family a large sum of money, she may not want to return it. Suing her and making police report can possibly frighten her into paying but there is no certainty. She may just play along and said that the money was for some services that she rendered to your family, something that she sell to your mum or that she did not borrow money from you. Very tough to get to the bottom of things with substantial proof.
It is very tough to counter people who are untruthful and have negative intent. I have personally experience this type of people both in real life and in the forum too. Basically, this type of people has no sense of shame and when you are up against them, it is an uphill battle. It is not easy for a third party to decipher the truth after a long barrage of exchanges. Hence, a court battle with claims and possibly counter claims, real and otherwise will be a taxing experience and mentally draining for you.
Well, I suppose the useful thing to do right now is to get your parents reconciled and then move on.
