Yes, a car in batam is necessary if you want to go places. Driving speed here is slow, due to small road n heavy traffic. Although they widen many major roads in city areas, still can be damn packed during traffic hours.

License? Just pay money to get an international driving license for less hassle. Unless u are local, pay to get a local one. Driving here is simple, but watch out for the ojeks n some pedestrians who have no rules. Some roads are full of pot holes as well. Petrol is cheap. Parking is 2k rupiah for as Long as u want, n free if no one collects from u. Malls go by hour

But as some Brothers pointed out, unless u are staying here, it is not worth it. You need a to maintain it as well. Or let someone use it. In the Long run, it is cheaper n better to get a taxi if u are hear for a few days a month
