I still think that my
"Why should you BUY a book, when you have easy access to a whole library?" is much stronger and better.
The expression "buy a book" instead of "keep a flower" here makes a whole difference of sarcasm in setting the analogy between the book and the wife.
You spend money to have a book only for yourself, while if you have free access to a library you can enter and read whatever you want at any time (but just have to return books after usage).
