I think giving them a specific window is better than a vague message and has a higher chance of getting a reply.

"Hi are you free today for a session anytime from 3-6pm?"

Sounds more serious and sincere rather than

"Hi, are you free?"

I won't be surprised if they get many messages like the latter and the sender of the message is just bored and wants to elicit a response.

It works for me.
