Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner
wow!! Took me sometime to finish reading the whole thread and it was certainly interesting!!
Would like to share my little experience here too if it's ok with the threadstarter!!
I too met a girl at JC. As much as the brothers here would like to say otherwise, I still think she is a nice girl. After the first time I met her, she never ask me to visit her at JC nor did I ever go again. It was never a customer to girl relationship we had. I will always meet her whenever I'm free during the day and let her go to work at night or meet her after work if she is free or I'm not working the next day. Whatever she does there, I don't ask and I don't interfere. As I didn't bao her or pay her money, I don't think it's right for me to restrict her in anyway. This went for the longest time.
Trying to keep to the topic, I did visit her at HCM before, more then once in fact. If she is in HCM, she will live with her sister. During 1 of the trip, we actually went back to her house in Phuoc Long. It was a 6hr ride from HCM. I stayed there for around 4 days.
It was not that bad, maybe I'm more of a laid back guy. It was a simple "village" with 1 road in the middle and houses on both sides. My girl's house was 1 of the better ones there, with 2 rooms and 1 living room. Right beside was her previous house, which is those rundown house which looks like it might leak when it rains. Her mom and the childrens still sleeps there. Their water source actually comes from the ground and they would use a pump...need to do skillfully to get the water flow started. They bought a big maybe 5 or 10 litre mineral water for me thus I don't drink their water, but besides that I would just eat their food and stuff and came out alright...didn't fall sick or anything.
With reference to what the other brothers have experienced earlier, I too have some observations of my own.
With regards to money, it was not that bad for me. Nobody actually came and ask money from me or anything like that. My way of doing things is that I will give my gal most of the money I brought there, keep a bit to myself just in case and she will settle everything for me. I don't pay for anything there, she does. If she overspends, I also got no money to give her. If she spends less, she gets to keep more.
Talking about the guys there, it's like what you guys say. Terrible!! She has 2 guys in her family, 1 elder and 1 younger brother. I hardly see them do anything except hangout with their friends and things like that. Basically, gals in the family do all the work. Like when the guys eat, after they are done throw everything down and leave. It the girls who will clear up, wash up and do everything. Regardless of who is elder or younger. The younger brother will do nothing as well.
Think I will continue some other time if anybody is interested, kind of tired after writing so much!! However I would like to conclude by saying that staying there made me appreicate the simple pleasures of life. I mean I played with their childrens, and they seem to be having just as much fun without the playstations, internet and toys. I can sort of understand why to the girls the family is always their top priority be it them being good or bad. Because the family is all the have, maybe instead of complaining that our girls care about their family then us, perhaps this is something we can learn from them instead.
