Most of the Vietnamese in District 5, HCMC, speaks Cantonese. Plenty of Teochews in Mekong Delta. Even Viet Kieu(oversea Vietnamese) come back to Vietnam to look for wife; usually his former hometown. You will meet some(hotel,travel agency,restaurant,shop) who speaks some Mandarin, Cantonese. Teochew or English......in those towns that I have mentioned.
Most 1st time traveller to Vietnam does not speak Vietnamese. Travel to
those places to see for yourself the life of a typical Vietnamese.
