Depending on which year you first went there, but things were very much different before 2005, or even in the year i first arrived in 2002.
I am sure some bros here remember when S$1 can only be exchange for around 6800 to 7000 VND. The Vietnamese dong notes are damm old and dirty and there were no 500,000 VND notes. The biggest note then were the 100,000VND notes which were brown colour.
There were not much cars on the roads as most people only ride bike. If you own a japanese made honda, u are considered damm rich roi. For cars, they were mostly Korean made Daewoos and most poeple like it white colour. There won't many taxi companies around, and the most popular were the yellow Vina Taxis, which was using Daewoo then. During raining days, it also rain in the taxi.. hahaha. When taxi vinasun came out with their brand new Toyota altis by late 2003, it was considered a luxury and most people like their taxis very much.
