I think you got the right answer! I am sorry I put you guys through all the guess work, it's tough when the upper bigger head had to work sometimes, don't you agree? ;-)
I am trying to put my thoughts back together that evening going to this bar (I wouldn't say it is a disco now). It was a posh hotel and I remember turning right after the entrance - walking into this curve shaped stairway down into the basement. We had to buy tickets at the entrance and going in, you will see a huge bar counter behind this circular bar counter lies the stage where the live band will play. Yes - it was a black foreign group that night in July 2001. The whole place was jam packed and people had to squeeze to pass each other. There were lots of nice young ladies (local, and mostly keturunan) in groups of 2 or 4. Adding to that, there were mostly bule(s). I can see it is another bule hunting ground - but the ladies are just too good to pass. One thing I am very certain is they serve their cold beer in very very tall glasses - almost like 1 foot long and damn heavy to hold, ha!
I thin moonface is right, the hotel is prob the Meridien. I shall check it out and once and for all satisfy my curiousity too.
