Man slashed by 4 in Geylang

A BLOODY drama unfolded yesterday afternoon in Geylang when a group of knife-wielding men attacked a man along the busy main road.

Witnesses said a fight broke out at around 2.40pm at a coffee shop at the junction of Geylang Road and Lorong 40.

A neighbouring shop owner, who declined to be named, said he saw a black car pull up by the main road minutes before the fight erupted.

A man got out of the car and was seen lifting a bundle of towel-wrapped parangs out of the car boot before walking towards the coffee shop.

The man returned the knives to the boot after a blood-covered man was seen running down the opposite side of the road, said the shop owner.

Others said they saw four men arguing with a fifth in the coffee shop, before the outnumbered man was slashed on the left side of his neck.

He ran across Geylang Road towards Lorong 37 before several passers-by came to his help. It is not known how his attackers escaped.

One witness, Mr Peter Goh, 54, said he was doing renovation work near Lorong 37 when the victim ran past, a motorcycle helmet in hand.

'His whole shirt was bloodied so I chased after him and told him I could help,' said Mr Goh, who bandaged the victim with tissues and a scarf.

The police said they received a call at 3.30pm and the injured 40-year-old man was taken to hospital.

'He was a very well-built man and appeared very calm,' said Mr Goh.

No one has been arrested and the police are investigating.
