It happened to me during my 'cherry' visit to Philippines, ten years ago .. and .. that was a Filipina's (working in Singapore) Sisters' husband ....
Just do the basic check - what is his sister doing in Singapore .. and stuff like that.. Did you see his ID ? for that matter, more than enough guys carry fake police ID. And if the guy says his sister was a maid before, and now married to Singaporean and living here, be a bit vary - 90% of maids seeking approval to marry singaporeans get rejected ... and less than 10% get it .. and even then, they hardly cross the Long Term pass/PR status ..
Meals are ok, but I will not want to have a cop as my bodyguard / guide, unless I intend to fuck underage girls, or do drugs - and I have no intention of doing drugs or fucking underage girls .. .... So I don't need a cop as my guard.
And unless you too are interested in fucking minor girls, stick to the known destinations, or head to Angeles or Peurto Galera where you will have less beautiful girls compared to the Manila hotties, but you are atleast sure to be safe an not get scammed. And even if the cop promises young girls, you never know if they are scamming you wholesale ...
And, even if a cop catches you when you heading to the hotel with a girl, there is no proof you are picking a prost, so they have no reason to hold you, and if you have less money in your wallet, they dont bother ..
And I have had enough experience in Manila, strangers walking up to me, swearing they met me in Malaysia (when I was wearing a Kuala Lumpur T Shirt) and had met me in Singapore - when I was wearing a Singapore T shirt and with the internet, a person has to just google to know some places in Singapore or KL, and you can strike up a chat ...
I stay away from 'instant' friends ...
I know more than enough guys who ended up with guides, and left penniless, and some have been blackmailed into paying 30,000 peso or more ..
Even in Angeles, enough of Singaporeans get scammed, as they instantly trust 'guides' and believe it will be easier to get stuff with guides.
Unless you are on a tight time frame, go alone, do your own pickup, and if you get nothing in bars, or not successful, look up the escort agencies .. and with a smaller premium, escort agencies do deliver good stuff.
And if you have a hard time picking a girl from LAC or Edsa, you maybe too choosy .. then pay the 10,000 plus for escorts. ..
Or for 10,000 peso, you can get you a bus travel to Angeles (just 150 pesoX2 for return - or 600 peso X 2 for Swagman bus) and hotel in AC for 2000, and girls at below 2,500 ... and you can be back in Manila ...
PS: even with all the preliminary checks, my gut feeling still says that don't bother.
Not to be paranoid, change your room, if you have invited him over to your place, and if you get a pickup- ask the pickup to follow you after you get to the room .. I been in near miss situations like that .. till I made friends with the hotel staff, and they admitted most of the 'cops' outside are illegal, and they try to warn guests to be vary.
To be safer - ask the hotel staff to be your guide on their off time .. you may have a whale of a time, and be happy that you are safe ...
another advice, try to avoid touts - for taxi, or anything .. sorry to say this but Singaporeans are very bit lazy and always look for touts .. so much so the touts can multiple your taxi fare from 100 peso metered to 500 peso unmetered ..
If I really need a reliable taxi and if I need to carry my luggage etc, i prefer the hotel to book a cab, and while this costs more, atleast I know I will reach my destination, not to another corner in Tondo ...
