came back today.
managed to bargain down most of my rides for 25-30k.
40k is too much to go to nagoya from ferry, don't take from the ferry terminal, walk out to the petrol station which is the main road.
They have the advantage that there are many carrot heads to chop and they can ignore you. Those outside on the main road are the more hardworking ones that will compromise your business with their margins and are willing to go down to 30-25k.
You have to go in the negotiation with a mindset that either you earn my money or someone else will and don't be afraid to say no and flag another taxi down - in batam they are everywhere, just wait 5 mins along the road and you'll get honked by at least 3-4 within 5-10 mins.
First time I gave in at 30k, then after one driver who was willing to send me to BCS mall for 25k.. my knife became sharper, cut all my rides to 25k - pasifik - nagoya.
Weekends may increase to 30k due to demand but 40k is too much
