I think her parents oso asking too much, it like they are taking their own daughter as a money tree/commodity.
They stay in rural area of Mekong Delta, therefore i oso find that with $1500, i can spend a comfortable life for 2-3mths over there. Maybe i never been Vietnam before so do corect me if im wrong.
