The viet gals that come here for marriage thru agency main purpose is to relieve their family's poverty. The viet families believe that if their daughters marry foreigners, there will be a constant flow of income. Its not quite possible that you don't make `regular payment' to the gal's family. Be it a big or small amount, surely there will be monthly payments. This is also the reason why ICA wants to see that the singaporean guy's career is stable with a certain amount of minimum income before they will grant PR to the viet gal. Some viet gals request $200 a month, while others request $500 or even more. It will depend on your communication and understanding with the gal. Besides the monthly payments, sometimes the family will request for other things like buying a motorbike, build house etc. Whether or not you need to pay so much will depend on how well you communicate with your wife and make her realise that life in Singapore is not easy.
