Teen exposes Dad's porn DVD business online
A former police officer's son, disappointed in his father's new found illegal dealings, posted evidence of the older man's pornographic DVD business on his blog in a bid to expose the crime. The teenager, Joe (not his real name), wrote on his blog that first he sensed something was amiss when he saw his father and elder brother carrying large duffel bags in and out of the family home on an almost daily basis. The father and son duo would return home from their trips and bring the bags straight to the older son's room and lock the door. Joe's elder brother is under 18. Two months after their actions first roused his suspicions, Joe decided to find out for himself what was going on. He snuck into his brother's room while both men were not at home and found several large plastic rubbish bags on the bed. Joe opened the bags to find that they contained about 500 DVDs of pornographic films. Joe said that he also noticed a DVD player in his brother's room, and suspected that it was likely used by both men to test the DVDs. He also wrote that his brother would often make trips to Geylang, and suspected that these trips have something to do with the DVDs as well. To further support his claims, Joe also posted pictures of the pornographic DVDs he had found. Most of the DVD covers depict a naked Caucasian woman in various suggestive poses. Joe also claimed to have reported the matter to the police. Joe said that his father was a former police officer, and had served the country for more than 20 years. Now that his father has joined his elder brother in a life of crime, Joe found himself very disappointed in the both of them. He also added that while he was reluctant to tell his mother about his father's involvement in these criminal dealings, he suspects that his mother already knows what is going on. Although Joe felt that he did the right thing in exposing his father's crimes, he was worried for his own safety and asked the Netizens reading his blog for help. He also wrote that he was afraid of being implicated by the illegal dealings, as his brother might use his mobile phone to conduct 'business'. According to the law, anyone who owns or trades underspecified VCDs and DVDs can be fined a minimum of $100. Those who are found guilty of processing pornographic material will face a minimum fine of $5000, a sentence of up to six months in jail, or both. Distributors or parties found guilty of the intention to distribute pornographic materials can be fined up to $80,000, be jailed up to 2 years, or both. Re: Teen exposes Dad's porn DVD business online
i think he was just naive.
very possibly the mother inculcated the right values in him, but the stupid father and the brother chose to be the black sheep in the family. *PAH!* perfect chance for our little boy to apply what he has always been taught.

Re: Teen exposes Dad's porn DVD business online
it's an ethical dilemma. there is no such thing as a right or wrong solution to this matter.
we always teach our juniors/siblings/kids that we must always be responsible to society in general. that is, we must be law abiding citizens. isn't it hypocritical to add lines such as "yes. we must be law abiding citizens but you must make concessions for your family if we break the law!" when I was very much younger and mischievous, my mum once said that if I were to ever break the law, no matter how painful it is for her, she would side with the law. why? namely because 1) I committed an offence on my own accord, and 2) we are all responsible for the actions that we take, families involved or not. it's the same ethical problem that we give out to test subjects. which goes something along the lines of this... "imagine yourself back in World War II. you are up in the attic with a family and you are hiding some Jews from the Nazis and the SS. they happen to sprung a surprise check of your building and you ushered everybody up into the attic. the SS then starts knocking on your door, and opens the door to the main apartment to do an inspection of the premise, whilst everybody is in the attic. suddenly a baby in the group starts crying due to the sheer terror of the situation. no amount of coaxing will convince the baby to stop crying. you know that if the crying continues, it may draw the SS to the attic, where then everybody will be promptly caught and executed. what will you do?" there isn't a right or wrong answer to the problem. what matters most is how you are able to justify it to YOURSELF by the actions that you take, and being able to live with the responsibility of making such a decision. |

Re: Teen exposes Dad's porn DVD business online
there were other ways to solve the problem. Did the teen tried those yet ?
And the underlying reason could be that $$ is not enuff for a father who was a former police man to turn to crime. probably not enuff $$ to support this stupid boy who reported him to police. |

Quote:
imagine scenario 1. boy reports father/brother, they get caught, they get thrown to jail. he's going to grow up without a paternal influence and the knowledge that he has caused the downfall of his family. also, potential earning power of the family has been halved due to his act, and as such may prove to be the financial strain that causes even more complications. quality of life after that? well. debatable. but more often than not, it's gonna be tough. so not that good. imagine scenario 2. boy reports father/brother, but they do not get caught and/or get let off due to proceedings unknown. his relationship with the family will be soured forever due to him doing what he felt was the right thing. quality of life after that? unless he actively hates the two of them, I would suspect it would be shithouse from then on! imagine scenario 3. boy does not report father/brother, but father/brother get caught through other means/methods. police interviews boy and finds out boy has had passive knowledge of crime. police may decide to charge him with abetting a crime, thereby potentially staining his record forever. not to mention the prospect of jail time or locking up in a hostel for his "actions" or lack off. quality of life after that? not that good. a record is a record imagine scenario 4. boy does not report father/brother, nothing happens, and all is fine and dandy. boy however, lives with fear and knowledge that he knows of something, and that what his father/brother are doing is clearly CLEARLY illegal regardless of familial ties. boy lives with regret through life, and might shape his very existence of being and perception of society. aka, boy may have his life ruined by this apparent paradox/contradiction in familial ties and legal workings. quality of life after that? definitely not good. long story short, the boy is screwed regardless of what action/s he decides to undertake. obviously the four given scenarios are mere generalisations, but they are generalisations based on realistic expectations and behaviours of any given individual experiencing the same thing! PS, I am not attacking you. just giving you my point of view on possible out takes. ![]() |
