The doctor is right. First trimester is for the baby to stabilize. For goodness sake, please abstain 3 months for your child. It's worth it.

For my first child I had to abstain for almost 18 months because our baby is very fragile (you can't fxck her after delivery due to bleeding). You should consider yourself lucky.
