Maybe I have bad taste or lack of foresight; or, to start with, the girls I have crushes on are not that good-looking to start with.

Speaking from experiencing that second heartbreak. i completely agree with this. Unless you can steel your heart and let sex be sex with nothing more. it's a very tough fallout.

just to share abit.

broke up with my "high school sweetheart" cause back then fucking immature and easily jealous so we always ended up quarreling about stupid stuff. tbh i regret having met her so early in my life as i was too young to treat her well. she is someone that i wish was my wife.

1-2 years after, she texted me out of the blue saying she misses me and all. we somehow ended up becoming something like fwbs. she would meet me and spend time have sex and all but she would talk to me about her dates with other guys. was quite a painful experience. she also helped me through a very depressive state during this period that we were fwbs.

she ended up pregnant with my child and she decided to abort it. disappeared after the abortion. after some time, i found out that she started to date my schooling days best friend. shit hit me damn hard. as she also knew how close i was with the guy back then.

There's still this conversation we had that i have never forgotten despite the years that has passed. she was telling me about how she feels that she will always love me deep down, even knowing that she likely will marry some other man. she even joked about how she would cheat on her future husband with me.

To me she will always be "the one that got away".
even after so many years, i still think of her and dream about her
