The hours stretched into days. KC is feeling the effects of going "cold turkey". For several days now, he has not recieved any SMSes from CK and with her contact deleted, he is also unable to initiate any to her. The first few days are especially hard and everyone, even clients, notice that KC is in an especially bad mood and very very snappish.

KC does not know to relate the torment within himself. He has never had this feeling before, even when he was courting his girlfriend years ago. It is a feeling of frustration sprinkled with bits of anger and impatience. It is a mixture of feelings and it is driving KC up the wall.

To relief himself, KC begins to pick up the hobbies that he has left behind, neglected since he started his business. He begins to swim, run,go for badminton and informal football games. At first the going is hard. He cannot concentrate as he struggles with his neglected physical fitness and images of a smiling CK flirts into his mind now and again. After a few weeks however, the going gets better and KC finds that he is begining to derive some distraction and enjoyment from the hobbies again.

KC begins to think that he has finally get over CK. He still thinks of her but less frequently as he tries to bury himself with work and hobbies. Somehow, he has also stopped going to health clubs and spas as he finds himself losing interest and joy in these establishments now.

Two months past before the bliss is shattered and chaos once more returns to KC.

The handphone buzzes just when KC is getting ready to leave the office. He picks it up and sees that it is an SMS from an unknown number. One look at the message and KC already knows who has sent it.

The message reads;
How have you been? Why so quiet? Are things OK for you? I miss you!

A wave of feelings and emotions overwhelm KC. First joy. KC is surprised at how his heart totally lightens and how his head floats at the message. Then anger. Anger not at her message but at how long she has taken to write to him. KC is taken back at these waves of emotins that flow all over him. He thinks he has gotten over CK but in reality, he has merely buried CK into an excuse of a shallow grave under a loose pile of dirt, sand, earth and CK has awaken and shifted all the loose debris aside and somehow resurrected herself again....

KC knows he needs to break the contact but does not know how. Desperate, he turns on the computer, to try to work, to forget her. The computer hums to life and KC finds himself surfng the net, looking aimlessly at websites and websites of no-consequence until suddenly a website he has heard before in his youth appears in the net browser; it is JUMBU-BOY FORUM...

He scans the website and is amazed at the mountain of information in it. Then an idea, sick and derformed in its nature, slowly takes form in his head and he begins to click.....

and read....

....and fervently wishes he has not done so

as every detail...

...every encounter

every facial grimace...

...every moan

sigh...

...of CK

with every strange man...

is graphically described, shared and exchanged in tones of joyful glee,

triumph and satisfaction

and leer...

KC switches off the computer, snatches his bag and leaves. The antidote has worked. It is a bitter pill, very coarse, vulgar and leaves a horrible horrible taste in his mouth and tears a gaping dark hole in his heart. Yet KC forces himself to take it in his mouth, to swallow it, just like the way she takes the shafts of each and every strange man, and gulps and swallows....

KC leaves the office feeling very angry and frustrated and drives around the city aimlessly for 3 hours before he finally cools down and heads home.

Meantime, KC has deleted the SMS without a reply.

KC thinks he might just win this round........

We gotta make a decision
To leave tonight or die this way...

And THAT, bros, is why Cold Turkey does not work if only one party delete the other's contacts.

KC deliberately keeps himself as busy as he can for the next few days. During this time, 2 additional SMS from CK arrives;

The first; Hullo? You must be busy? Thinking of you.

The next, which comes after a few days from the previous in the middle of the night; Drinking with some friends now. Think I'm totally drunk....really wish you are here right next to me!!!

These SMSes go, with great self control and discipline from KC, unanswered, unreplied and unsaved.

Then, fate intervens in the most strange manner.

KC recieves an invitation from an associate to visit him overseas and see if they can work out some new working understanding. KC looks at the address; the associate is asking him to come down to his China office. KC's eyes narrow and sees that the office is situated in a province near CK's hometown.........

Almost on cue, KC's handphone buzzes with a new SMS. It is uncanny. CK has just sent a SMS; what's happening? Can you call me?

His mind in a pleasant daze over this new arrangement and turn of events, KC picks up the handphone and dials from CK's SMS number without thinking. There is a foreign sounding dial tone, then the line is pick up and KC hears CK's voice, clear and loud;

Hi how are you? You must be busy these few weeks and days! So quiet!!!

I'm fine, I'm fine. How are you? KC finds himself answering automaticlly, like a preprogrammed drone.

The weather's turning chilly now. Kinda cold. I'm having a nice relaxing time.

How's the back? KC asks almost as a reflex reaction.

Ha, the hospital says it's a simple sprain. So much for your Singapore Western Medical technology! I have been recieving a mixture of traditional herbal massage and modern oral medications so far.

Herbal massage? KC asks and almost blurts out, with special service? But he catches his tongue just in time.

CK goes on to describe her home stay. Finally she asks how KC is doing.

Good good. KC says.

There is an awkward silence for a few minutes.

Then KC cannot control himself anymore and asks; Is GGGG near your hometown? I will be going there in a few weeks time for some matters. Is it convenient for you to meet me then?

CK answers excitedly, Of course!!! Tell me the dates when you will be coming!!!

They exchange and co-ordinate details and information on the trip for a few minutes after which CK says she has to hang up as she needs to accompany her parents for tea. Before the conversation ends, CK asks KC to stay in touch. Then they hang up.

KC puts down his handphone and thinks. They have chatted almost like old friends, not lovers. Throughout the entire conversation, CK has not uttered a single word of endearment or professed intimacy. She does not even say that she misses him even though her SMSes are brimfull of such declarations!!!

KC thinks this is turning out to be very interesting.

KC begins to make neccessary arrangements for the trip, and accomdations for the both of them...
