Questions need to be asked about the SMRT rail crack
An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
What is the expect lifespan of the rail? It seems that the lifespan is shorter than the subway in other countries. Why? Were sub-standard material used? How much was paid for this rail tracks and were the cost comparable to the tracks used in other countries? I believe then that sinkapore installed the latest technology. Question then is if it was the best then, why is it failing faster than other systems overseas? We need answers. Quote: SMRT: Rail crack due to corroded metal strip; overhaul of system "absolutely necessary" alelah Abu Baker | The Straits Times | Friday, May 31, 2013 SMRT's spokesman added that the galvanic corrosion happens over time and that in this instance, routine ultrasonic and multi-functional vehicle (MFV) tests were not able to detect this defect because it was on the underside of the rail.
