If you do not know what is sinsoot ( สินสอด) , I suggest you do not marry a Thai girl.

I have a friend, the mother in-law wants 4M baht 3 location wedding dinner... so it all up to him whether he wants to do it or not..

Erm, bro kukulee, i think the others already answered about the sinsoot part. It's one thing to want to marry ur tirak but when u actually sit down and start making plans for it like what im doing now, it's not as simple as i initially thought. The cultural differences, the visa issues in the future, the amount of $$$$$ needed r just some of the things u have to consider. I'm not really sure which part u feel lost about, maybe u want to elaborate more because other brothers here might be able to help?

thai marriage i think is nt anything different from most asian ones, except for the tiny little details on the dowry & gifts, the feast/ reception/ banquet is rather SOP as well. the only difference i guess varies from family to family, person to person.

i've heard of some marriages that didnt need a single cent for sinsot, there'd also be some with average amount for sinsot (anything between thb20k to thb200k). bt then of cos, in most cases, the sinsot is only for ceremonial water face, n part of it is returned after the ceremony is done n the guests have gone home. in some cases, the parents returns the sinsot with a title deed of asset or in some extreme cases, shares to the family biz... etc

watever the case is, the pressure is on when negotiating terms, cos the bride to be will ask "how much do u actually love her?", but for the groom to be "how much do u really wanna milk me?"
