Guess your context "Thai people" here means Thai gers.... "freedom" as in alone with own free time. Assume both are the right definitions, then I must say your statement are incorrect. Thai gers are "sticky".

Bro, Thai gers generally DONT LIKE others to control or ask where they are, where they go and what they want to do and why these cannot do or that cannot do....blah blah.

Thai gers generally like someone who close 1 eye to whatever they do as long as you dont control them, they will love u mak mak. They are sticky to their bf but yet they dont like pple to control them too much. its their culture. Sticky to you but u MUST NOT BE STICKY TO THEM.

WORD OF CAUTION: Avoid eating too much sticky rice as it has a high GI value which will lead to diabetes.

Re: Marrying A Thai ger

Some guys think they've got it all figured out. The moment you think you know better, you must realise you only just fooled yourself.

As in any relationship, learn the language. That is the touchstone to learning the culture and your partner better.

I was chatting with a buddy some time back. I was suggesting learning to read and write Thai as well, so that we can improve ourselves. His response, "Don't need lah. I just need to speak and listen, can already." Odd ain't it? We actually allow ourselves to remain illiterate.

It's a bit of a stereotype - I was in a serious relationship for about 2 years with a Thai girl and in no way was she sticky to me. On the contrary, she exhibited typical traits of a local Singapore girl - she knew she was hot so played hard to get most times. I was the one who became sticky, with disastrous consequences.

Every Thai girl is different. Can't say the same for Singapore ones, though. Dime a dozen.

Re: Marrying A Thai ger

My Maesai terak is very sticky, especially to my notes... or maybe I'm hot? Forsake all others except me... as far as I've known her for over 3 years now

One of my cewek (indo) sayang play hard to get with me and know how to play the tarik-rilis game... that makes me crazy about her...

Man are lidat lor... prefer to go sweat and hunt for food, but dun like to eat what's placed in front of them. Street-wise gals understand this and use it to their advantage... so it's not Thai or Indo or whatever nationality but how street-wise and "seasoned" they are in r/s matters.

Brother Charmaine, your uncanny ability to engage in the most banal sort of stereotyping while making the most exaggerated and sweeping generalizations never fails to amaze and amuse me.

Okay. We all know you LOVE Thai girls. Nothing shameful about being an apologist for them. As they say, whatever floats your boat.

Still, must you take every little opportunity to slam and deride so-called 'Singaporean girls'? Bro, you're articulate enough. But sometimes, it seems you simply don't know what you're talking about. Things just come across as a little snide and cheap, and perhaps a little pathological as well, don't you think? And along with most other Samsters, I really have no idea what you're compensating for. It's not our business. So just chill.

I am not trying to engage in a flame skirmish or anything like that. But let us all live and let live. I am sure you have your own reasons for entertaining certain prejudices against 'local' girls but I can assure you that judging an individual on criteria as shallow and narrow as nationality or ethnicity, without bothering to see, know, feel and understand beyond what is merely obvious and skin-deep, is just plain wrong and short-sighted. Someone can easily come up with some patchy evidence and make a reasonable claim that the exact opposite of what you typed is true (especially if you are talking about, for example, Thai women from the commercial sex scene; since when is a whore NOT a whore?). But what would be the point? Tit for tat? If we can't let go of the resentment and hate, it'll just poison us from within eventually. My two cents.

P.S.: I have nothing against Thai women at all. I just got to know a 31-year old consultant from Thailand through work. Gleaming CV. Multiple degrees including a PhD from Cambridge. Owns an apartment in Sukhumvit and a villa in Phuket. Good tatse in cars. Smart as hell. Not only knowlegeable but knows what she wants. And packed with enough confidence to shred egos too. Only thing missing in her closet is a beauty queen's tiara or something. Quite pretty in a serious, bookish and understated way too. Nonetheless, not my type. Tad too ambitious. Makes me feel distinctly inferior just talking to her, hawhawhaw!

Nice anecdote. Reminds me of my tg gf's sister who's a phd from Thammasat U. Academic ivory type, out of place in her 1st real commercial job -took umbrage on doing anything not spelt out in job spec. Can make small chat with me, asking what's my " dissertation" (wah kao, do I look that sort??)Better off back to academia.

As for impression that tgs are softies (or stickies?) or man pleasers, mine is one hell of independent minded and baulks at control (even family).

As for charmaine's bit on local products, rather think it's just a personal opinion expressed (depending on one's outlook, experiences). Let's not read too much into it. Daresay, there's fair bit of anti-sg gals lobby here in this forum. Not that I necessarily agree.. chabor are complex creatures

Hey, I was just being cheeky. If you're in a current relationship with a local girl, I beg that you do not feel offended by my insinuations. This is a forum, not the United Nations Congress. I do hope I'm entitled, after a long day at work, to come in here and let loose a little stress! The world's already too serious as it is. I've just lost a girlfriend - cut me some slack.

Local girls do have their strengths - everyone here is guilty, in general, of stereotyping and I'm simply confessing to being lazy enough not to end off every comment with "it's just my own my personal opinion guys - take it easy". I've been in relationships with slightly less than half a dozen Singapore girls, and my latest was with a beautiful, mature, insightful Thai-Chinese, but no matter I guess - they're all the same breed. Girls will be girls.

I've been in a failed relationship with a Thai. It's the only pan-island relationship I've ever been in, but it's the most beautiful, exotic, romantic one ever. I'm 31, so I've seen some. But you know, it's just my own personal opinion. Take it easy.

Re: Marrying A Thai ger

girls are universal. only good ones and bad ones. Nationality doesn't affect their complex mind structures....

But i believe. If one really loves someone. He/She will become sticky. You cannot control it... its just love.
